Research and Teaching Areas:

Particular research interests in the translation and study of contemporary Hispanic literature (especially the Generations of 1898 and 1927, contemporary Spanish American poetry and fiction, and Hispanic women writers) translation theory, and the pedagogy of translation. Recent publications include Between Languages and Cultures: Translation and Cross-Cultural Texts, co-edited with Anuradha Dingwaney, and translations of María Zambrano's Delirium and Destiny, Rosa Chacel's Memoirs of Leticia Valle, Octavio Armand's Refractions, and Severo Sarduy's Christ on the Rue Jacob (with Suzanne Jill Levine). Former member of the Board of Directors, American Literary Translators Association; MLA Texts and Translation Series editorial board; International editorial boards of The Translator and TTR; Senior editor of the Literary Translations from the Spanish and Portuguese section of the Handbook of Latin American Studies. Teaches courses in literary and cultural translation and technical, scientific, and medical translation, and introduction to graduate research and writing.
