PROJECT #4 Localizing a Web Page
DUE: October 7, 2001
DESCRIPTION: Your primary task is to edit and localize the web page provided in class. This web page is named LocalizationofHTML.htm and is available here. As an alternative assignment for anyone currently working on a web page, you may create a new page for me utilizing the same elements used here: StyleSheet, Table as Formatting Grid, simple Javascript, Form, Meta Tags, comments, indented style. Once you have localized the page link it to the original page using some form of language navigation system (flag links, drop-down list, etc.)
STEPS
1. Download the web page from the site and put it in a folder on your zip drive or on the hard disk. Also download the CSS (cascading style sheet file) that is located here. The name of this file is Localization.css. Put this in the same folder location as you placed the HTML page.
2. Locate the HTML editing program named HomeSite on the desktop or on the start menu. You may also use FrontPage if you are working somewhere else. We will use HomeSite in class.
3. Sub Assignment #1: Open the HTML file in the HTML editor and use the EDIT and DESIGN modes to get a feel for the difference. EDIT mode (HTML mode in FrontPage) lets you work directly with the HTML coding. Find all of the localizable text and localize each of the strings. Add a META tag with your name and date and other comments as appropriate.
4. Sub Assignment #2: Open the CSS file in Notepad or some other text editor and change the styles that have been used. Add a new style rule to apply to one of the FORM tags such as input. Apply a rule to the background.
5. Sub Assignment #3: Locate 3 new images for the pictures of the fruit and insert them in the proper locations.
DELIVERABLES: Once you have localized the page, link it to the original English page, and send them both, plus the changed CSS file, to me by email.
