Midterm Project: Catalyst Localization of Software Application
DUE: By October 24, 2001
DESCRIPTION: You have been assigned the responsibility for localizing the User Interface (UI) and help files (WinHelp 4 format) for the CALC.EXE program. This is a small utility program that ships with every Windows system.
STEPS
1. Copy the file LocalizeMidTerm.ttk from the Zip Drive I will pass around in class. This file will also be available from the web site at this location. Save it in a folder on the C: drive of the computer you want to work on. Do NOT work with it from the F: drive network folder. You may work with it from a zip disk if you have one.
2. Use Catalyst Quickship to translate and localize the files. Localize the Menus, Dialogs and String Tables of the UI. Localize the Help File. Do not change any other UI objects. Be sure to utilize the running copy of the program (to be found under Programs/Acessories off of the start menu) to find the contexts for your translations. Or search for CALC.EXE in the Windows Folder. Use the translation processes you have been taught to translate the files. Find out if there are any existing multilingual Windows/Microsoft glossaries for you to use.
3. When you are done, use the Quickship Glossary export to export a glosssary file. The file name should be LocalizeMidTerm.txt.
4. Using an align program (WinAlign, Cypresoft Transuite 200 Align) align the glossary and create a Translation Memory. The TM file, in TMX format, should be LocalizeMidTerm.tmx .
|
DELIVERABLES: 1. Email me a copy of the translated LocalizeMidTerm.ttk file. 2. Email me a copy of the exported glossary in its original form. 3. Email me a copy of the TM glossary in TMX format. |
