Things to Know Ahead of Time
  • Your data will end up in the following path:
    • Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Trados/MultiTerm/Termbases
  • Look at this folder now so that you are familiar with it. It will change as you work with it.
  • We will actually copy and move this folder back and forth between the lab computers and your folder on the Grads directory when we save your data.

Getting Started
  • The Trados MultiTerm icon is on the desktop in the lab
  • Otherwise, locate the SDL MultiTerm 7 folder on the C drive of your computer
  • Load the program by clicking on the MultiTerm icon in the dropdown menu.
  • If you load the program more than once, the icon will appear in the start menu, but it won’t stay there if you reboot a computer in the lab.

Preparation
  • Think through the data categories that you will want to have in your database.
  • Divide them up into index fields, text fields, and picklist fields.
  • Think through our data structure and your input model.
  • Don’t forget to plan for your bibliographical input model as well.
  • There is a list of categories in the Termbases folder.

Why use the predefined template?
  • It saves you some work because some of the picklist fields have already been populated.
  • It SHOULD allow you to prevent making all your index fields mandatory, but it doesn’t, which is a real pain when when you are entering data.
  • It allows you to modify things somewhat, so it’s almost as free as creating the termbase definition from scratch.
